The following is a list of camps and career exploration events for students interested in the Health Sciences.

Scrubs Camps, also known as "South Dakota Healthcare Career Summer Camps," are educational programs aimed at high school students who are interested in exploring healthcare careers. These camps provide participants with an opportunity to learn about various healthcare professions, gain hands-on experience, and interact with healthcare professionals.
Camp Med Events are free, one-day, hands-on health career learning opportunities for middle school students. These events are typically held in local middle schools during the course of students' regularly scheduled day.

October 11, 2024 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM Open to students in grades 10-12 Max of 60 Participants This day of exploration is for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who are curious about the healthcare industry and want to learn more. The first half of the camp will feature patient treatment processes in different departments of Prairie Lakes Healthcare System along with a tour. The second half of the camp will take place at Lake Area Technical College with a provided lunch and tour. The camp is limited to 60 students. Camp Med
February 6, 2025 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM Open to students in grade 8 Camp Med is a free, one-day hands-on health career exploration for 8th grade students. Students will experience a wide variety of health careers through hands-on activities and discussions. Students will participate in a fun, hands-on activity such as reading x-rays, practicing a suture, stabilizing a trauma patient, or rehabilitating a stroke patient. STEM Camp
March 17, 2025 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM Open to students in grade 8 This event is for students who may have an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers by connecting them with successful role models who are already working in STEM-related professions. The day consists of education, interesting presentations and fun, hands-on activities. SD HOSA Camps

Exploration Days at MTC Thursday, November 7, 2024 Thursday, January 23, 2025 Wednesday, March 26, 2025 Thursday, July 17, 2025 Tech Camp - Scrubs Camp November 21, 2024 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM This day is an opportunity for students and instructors to visit the programs at Mitchell Technical College and the "next steps" in career clusters of interest. The day will consist of experiencing different careers, hearing from professionals who will discuss their careers, and explore careers through hands-on activities. HOSA is the nationally recognized Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) for the Health Sciences career cluster. CTSOs like HOSA are critically important to having a well-rounded, engaging, and rigorous CTE program in your district. National Consortium for Health Science Education
The National Consortium for Health Science Education is a non-profit education organization that represents state education agency leaders responsible for middle school, secondary, and postsecondary career technical education (CTE) health science programs. Established in 1991, NCHSE supports visionary leadership, promotes best practices, and speaks with one voice to promote career success for the next generation of health professionals. Their teacher organization offers resources, PD, and other support for HOSA Advisors and health science educators across the country.
